Meeting the Challenge
Throughout the world, radicchio has become a popular way to add bright red color and distinctive flavor to meals. However, getting radicchio from the growing fields to the dinner table while its still fresh is a challenge when the vegetable is not domestically grown. To combat smaller, zestless radicchio, EVS Farms -- based in Salinas, California and growers and distributors of Royal Rose Radicchio -- offers Fresher-Bigger-Better radicchio.
Fresher Radicchio
Royal Rose radicchio is fresher because it is field-packed and shipped directly to distributors and retailers. Foreign grown radicchio often spends up to four weeks in route to local American distributors and retailers.
Bigger Radicchio
Because domestically grown radicchio spends less time being shipped, the outer layers stay firm, full and healthy. A good, fresh head of radicchio should weigh at least half a pound, but if radicchio is shipped from a foreign location, it looses its original size in when it is trimmed down to remove the limp and wilted layers
Domestic Harvesting
Consumers can find fresh Royal Rose radicchio year-round because EVS Farms grows it in several locations across the United States, including Florida, Arizona and Americas Salad Bowl Salinas, California.
The Result!
With fresher, bigger Royal Rose radicchio, consumers can take advantage of its versatility by using it in salads, cooked entrees and a myriad of side dishes.
